What Is Sand Plaster?

Earthaus Sand Plaster is an interior lime plaster formulated for a matte, granular texture. Made from 100% natural materials, it provides a breathable, durable, and eco-friendly finish. Sand Plaster offers excellent workability, strong adhesion to compatible substrates, and superior moisture management properties. It is well-suited for creating organic, timeless aesthetics on interior walls in residential, commercial, and heritage restoration projects.

Composition

  • Hydrated lime

  • Pumice aggregates

  • Cellulose binder

Packaging

  • Bag size: 32 lbs

  • Pallet quantity: 60 bags

Properties

  • 100% natural materials

  • Zero VOCs or chemical additives

  • Durable, breathable, and mold-resistant

  • Absorbs CO₂ during curing, reverting to limestone

Usage

Designed for interior applications only, applied over:

  • Level-4 finished drywall

  • Painted walls

  • PHL Binder basecoats in the BUILD Interior Plaster Assembly

Installation

Limitations

  • Not suitable for exterior use.

  • Not suitable for showers or wet applications.

Color

  • Standard: white with a light grey undertone.

  • Tinting: can be pigmented with Earthaus mineral pigment colors or universal colorants.

Applied Thickness & Coverage

  • Over drywall/painted surfaces: 100 ft² per 32 lb bag, applied in two 1/32" coats (total 1/16").

  • Over absorbent plaster basecoats: 50 ft² per 32 lb bag, applied in one 1/8" coat.

Sealing

  • Sealing is optional.

  • When sealed with Earthaus Olive Oil Soap Sealer, Sand Plaster becomes water-resistant yet vapor-permeable.

Storage

  • Mixed plaster: store covered at room temperature for up to 14 days. Remix before use.

  • Unmixed bags: store in dry conditions, low humidity, up to 1 year.

Disposal

  1. Allow excess Sand Plaster to dry completely.

  2. Dispose of dried plaster in household trash.

Safety Information

Hydrated lime is strongly alkaline and may cause severe injury on contact with eyes or skin. Inhalation of dust can irritate the respiratory system. Proper PPE is essential.

  • Required PPE: gloves, eye protection, long sleeves, dust mask or respirator.

  • Avoid: skin and eye contact, prolonged dust inhalation.

Emergency response:

  • Eyes: Flush with plenty of water; seek medical attention immediately.

  • Skin: Wash with water and mild soap; consult physician if irritation persists.

  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air; seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

  • Ingestion: Do not ingest; seek medical attention immediately.
