What Is Base Plaster?

Earthaus Base Plaster is an interior lime plaster with a granular texture. It is specifically formulated as the basecoat for the Earthaus Tadelakt system, but can also be used as a finish plaster for a rustic, coarse matte aesthetic. Made from 100% natural materials, Base Plaster is breathable, durable, and eco-friendly.

Composition

  • Hydrated lime

  • Pumice aggregates

  • Cellulose binder

Packaging

  • Bag size: 32 lbs

  • Pallet quantity: 60 bags

Properties

  • 100% natural materials

  • Zero VOCs or chemical additives

  • Durable, breathable, and mold-resistant

  • Absorbs CO₂ during curing, reverting back into limestone

Usage

Designed for interior applications, applied over:

  • Approved wet-area substrates (as part of the Earthaus Tadelakt Finish System)

  • Level-4 finished drywall

  • Painted walls

  • Plaster basecoats

Installation

Limitations

  • Not suitable for exterior use.

Color

  • Standard: white with a light grey undertone.

  • As a finish plaster, Base Plaster can be tinted with Earthaus mineral pigment colors or universal colorants.

Applied Thickness & Coverage

  • As basecoats for Tadelakt Plaster: 50 ft² per 32 lb bag (two ⅛" coats).

  • As a finish plaster: 100 ft² per 32 lb bag (two 1/32" coats, total 1/16").

Sealing

When used as a finish, Base Plaster can be sealed with Earthaus Olive Oil Soap Sealer to create a water-resistant yet vapor-permeable surface.

Storage

  • Mixed plaster: store covered at room temperature for up to 14 days. Remix before use.

  • Unmixed bags: store dry, in low humidity, for up to 1 year.

Disposal

  1. Allow excess Base Plaster to dry completely.

  2. Dispose of dried plaster in household trash.

Safety Information

Hydrated lime is strongly alkaline and may cause severe injury upon contact with eyes or skin. Dust inhalation may irritate the respiratory system.

  • Required PPE: gloves, eye protection, long sleeves, dust mask or respirator.

  • Avoid: skin and eye contact, prolonged dust inhalation.

Emergency response:

  • Eyes: Flush with water; seek immediate medical attention.

  • Skin: Wash with water and mild soap; consult physician if irritation persists.

  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air; seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

  • Ingestion: Do not ingest; seek medical attention immediately.
