Storing Earthaus products correctly is simple: dry plasters last up to 12 months in original packaging (check your product's data sheet) and liquid products have a 2-year shelf life when stored properly. The key enemies are moisture (for dry products) and freezing (for some liquid products). Here's how to store everything correctly.
Dry Plaster Products
Applies to: Base Plaster, Tadelakt Plaster, Stone Plaster, Sand Plaster, Marble Plaster, Lime Stucco (Fine & Coarse), PHL Binder, Primer Grit
How to store:
Keep in a cool, dry location off the ground (on a pallet, shelf, or elevated surface)
Store in original sealed packaging until ready to use
Protect from moisture — if the bag gets wet, the plaster can begin to set inside the bag and become unusable
Avoid freezing temperatures and extreme heat
Shelf life: Up to 12 months in original packaging when stored properly — check your product's data sheet.
Signs it's gone bad:
Hardened chunks that won't break apart when you squeeze the bag
Powder that has clumped into solid masses and won't mix smooth
Bag feels rock-hard or significantly heavier than expected (absorbed moisture)
If your dry plaster has hardened due to moisture exposure, it cannot be recovered. Do not attempt to grind it down or use it — the chemical reaction has already begun and the product will not perform correctly.
Mineral Pigment Packs
Dry mineral powder with a very long shelf life. Keep sealed and dry — no special storage requirements beyond that. Pigment packs won't degrade or expire under normal conditions as long as moisture stays out.
Liquid Products
How to store: Room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Keep containers sealed when not in use.
Freezing: These products can survive freezing during transit or storage. If they arrive frozen or freeze in your garage over winter, allow them to return to room temperature and stir or shake thoroughly before use. They will perform normally.
Shelf life: 2 years from purchase.
Signs it's gone bad: Separation that won't re-incorporate after thorough stirring; a foul or unusual smell; chunks, film, or mold on the surface.
How to store: Room temperature, out of direct sunlight. Keep containers sealed.
Freezing: Do not allow to freeze. Freezing can break the acrylic emulsion and ruin the product permanently. If it has frozen, it may appear chunky, separated, or grainy after thawing — if it won't mix back to a smooth, uniform consistency, it should be discarded.
Shelf life: 2 years from purchase.
Limewash
Limewash ships as a dry, pre-pigmented powder that you mix with water.
Unmixed (dry) Limewash: stores up to 1 year kept dry.
Mixed Limewash (combined with water): stores indefinitely if kept tightly lidded in a frost-free location. Unlike the Earthaus plasters, Limewash contains no pumice, so there is no pozzolanic reaction and no pot-life limit once it's mixed. The pigment and lime will settle over time, so stir thoroughly before each use to bring the mix back to a uniform consistency.
Mixed Plaster (Already Combined with Water)
Once mixed, Earthaus plasters can be stored in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks at room temperature (50–70°F). Heat shortens this window. Freezing will ruin mixed plaster.
Cold Weather Shipping
If your order arrives during winter and liquid products (Olive Oil Soap, Beeswax) appear frozen or very cold:
Bring them inside to room temperature.
Allow them to thaw completely (this may take several hours for large containers).
Stir or shake thoroughly.
Use normally.
For Acrylic Sealer or Breathable Sealer that arrived frozen: inspect carefully after thawing. If the product mixes back to a smooth, uniform consistency, it's fine to use. If it remains chunky or separated, contact [email protected] for a replacement.
