Applying a first coat of Earthaus Stone Plaster before the Marble Finish establishes the correct foundation for the finish system. The Stone layer provides both the ideal surface profile and the necessary absorption rate to ensure the Marble Plaster coats adhere and polish correctly.
Why the Stone Plaster First Coat Is Required
Provides the right absorption rate. Marble Plaster is a very fine, dense material that requires a substrate with controlled absorbency. Stone Plaster creates a semi-porous, consistent base that draws the Marble Plaster coats in at the right rate — preventing the finish from drying too fast or too slow.
Creates a flat, even surface. Stone Plaster is formulated to produce a flat, smooth surface that eliminates substrate irregularities. Applying Marble Plaster directly over uneven or highly variable surfaces (such as drywall, plywood, or rough masonry) can result in visible texture variation, poor adhesion, and polishing difficulty.
Ensures color uniformity. The Stone Plaster base helps control how the Marble Plaster pigments distribute across the surface. A consistent base layer prevents mottled or uneven color in the finished Marble coat.
What Happens Without the Stone Plaster Layer
Marble Plaster may dry too quickly in some areas and too slowly in others, making burnishing timing erratic.
Adhesion may be compromised on highly porous or non-uniform substrates.
Color variation and surface inconsistencies are more likely without a controlled base layer.
