Description
The Earthaus Marble Finish is inspired by traditional Italian Venetian plaster. It is a fine-grained formula designed to be polished by burnishing, producing an ultra-smooth and reflective surface. Darker colors reveal more variation and mottling when polished.
Not suitable for shower use.
Materials Summary
Total system thickness: 1/16"
Substrate preparation: Prime with Earthaus Primer Grit additive over level-4 drywall or previously painted wall.
Stone Plaster: One 1/32" coat.
Marble Plaster: Two coats, together totaling 1/32".
Mineral Pigment Pack: One pack per bag of Stone and Marble Plasters.
Olive Oil Soap Sealer: One coat.
Why this matters: Thin, consistent layers ensure both durability and aesthetic quality. Over-thickness increases the risk of cracking.
Properties
Made from US-quarried lime, pumice, mineral pigments, and plant-based binder.
100% natural materials. Zero VOCs or chemical additives.
Excellent adherence and workability.
Absorbs CO2 during curing and becomes limestone. Mold and mildew resistant.
Preparation
Tools needed:
Plaster mixing: 1200 RPM drill, egg beater paddle, 5-gal buckets, mesh strainer, sponge, hawk, trowel.
Sealer: 1-gal bucket, roller or brush.
Safety precautions: Highly alkaline when wet. Wear dust mask, safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing.
Substrate preparation: Use low or zero VOC primer with Earthaus Primer Grit (1 cup per gallon). Apply evenly, allow to fully dry.
Application Sequence
Base coat — Stone Plaster.
Mixing: Add 2.4 gallons water, add pigment, strain. Add plaster, mix 3 min. Thick milkshake consistency.
Application: Apply 1/32" thickness. At 60% dry, smooth ridges. Let dry fully.
Finish coats — Marble Plaster.
Mixing: Add 3 gallons water. Add Marble plaster while mixing. Mix 3 min until smooth. Strain through mesh strainer.
Application:
Apply a very thin tight coat.
While damp, apply the second tight coat. Do not let the first coat dry.
As plaster firms, burnish with a clean trowel for sheen.
For matte finish, stop here. For polished finish, continue to sealing.
Sealing — Olive Oil Soap Sealer.
Wait until Marble surface is completely dry (at least 12 hours).
Dilute 1 quart sealer in 1 gallon warm water.
Apply with brush or roller in small sections.
Start at the bottom of the wall and avoid drips.
