Per the Earthaus <a href="https://intercom.help/earthaus-plaster/en/articles/15564174-tadelakt-installation-guide" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Tadelakt Installation Guide</a>, shower substrate preparation includes:

Rigid 1/2" backerboard (e.g., HardieBacker, Durock, Wedi).

A thinset key coat — a 1/8" layer applied with a V-notch trowel.

1. Framing that meets ANSI 108.11.
2. Rigid 1/2" backerboard (e.g., HardieBacker, Durock, Wedi).
3. Waterproofing per ANSI 118.10.
4. A thinset key coat — a 1/8" layer applied with a V-notch trowel.
